GENERAL INFORMATION

 

1. How does the ACTS Door-To-Door service work?

The ACTS Door-To-Door service is a membership based service that must be pre-booked. You must join the ACTS Travel Club and have your membership information put on our Scheduling System. Then we advise you to ring the office to make your booking 48 hours in advance or even e-Mail the details of your booking to us and we will ring you back to discuss your booking. 
 

2.Who is eligible for ACTS Door-To-Door service membership?

Persons with a disability particularly a physical disability e.g. using a wheelchair or people with limited mobility e.g. using a stick, rolator or who cannot manage steps onto a vehicle.
  

3.Can I travel on my own?

On most occasions you will be traveling on your own, however, you may be traveling with someone else if for example, we were doing two different pick ups from St. Vincent's Hospital at the same time and both were going in the same direction. Otherwise, we do multiple pick ups on the same journey to Day Care, Work, Training Centres or Concerts.

4. Can ACTS carry my wheelchair or scooter?

We can carry all types of manual and power wheelchairs, but some scooters maybe too big for the lift platform. We advise you to inform us if you’re using a scooter.
 

5. How can I make a complaint?

If you have a problem with your booking or journey please phone our office on 01-2921573 or 01-2921574 and ask to speak to the manager in the first instance or file an issue via our Contact Form.

 

BOOKING JOURNEYS

 

6. How far in advance can I book my journeys?

Most journeys are booked 48 hrs in advance, but we do our best to accommodate requests made on shorter notice, if space has become available due to cancellations.


You can request a booking up to two weeks in advance if your journey is time critical and you need to arrive at a very specific time (e.g. for a meeting , appointment or special family event). We will let you know if we can accommodate your request within one working day; to give you time to make alternative arrangements if we can not find a slot to match your requirements.
 

7. What are the opening times for the booking lines?

Our Door-To-Door service booking office is open from;

  • 9.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday
  • Please note that all weekend bookings must be made within booking office hours.
  • In an emergency, you can contact the emergency mobile phone. This mobile number is available from our office answering machine.


8. What sort of trips can I use ACTS Door-To-Door service for?

It can be used to cover all journeys such as shopping, visiting friends, doctor or dental appointments, hospital appointments, work, college, attending meetings or social outings.
 

9. How far can the ACTS Door-To-Door service take me?

The Door-To-Door service is generally best at providing short distance transport. Longer distance travel can sometimes be arranged depending on available resources.
 

10. Does ACTS Community Transport collect people from Nursing Homes and Hospitals?

Yes we can, once they are a member of the Travel Club and the Nursing Home or a family member has made the booking for the passenger to travel, particularly at weekends.
 

11. Which part of the city does ACTS Door-To-Door service cover?

 ACTS Door-To-Door service covers South of the Liffey from Tallaght / Clondalkin to Dun Laoghaire.
 

12. What if I live in another part of the city?

If you live in another part of the city we recommend that you contact Vantastic for bookings on the north side of the city and city centre, Easi Cabs for Bray and North Wicklow area and Lucan Disability Action Group for the Lucan / Clondalkin / North Kildare areas.

13. Can a visitor to Dublin use the ACTS Door-To-Door service?

Yes. ACTS offers membership to visitors who meet with our membership criteria. You will need to complete a membership form and return it, together with the dates of your visit and the address where you’re staying. Membership form available as a download.

14. How much does the ACTS Door-To-Door service cost?
 
The ACTS Door-To-Door fare structure is bench marked against the Irish national taxi rates as set by the Taxi Regulator. There is no booking charge.

 

 

TRAVELLING WITH ACTS DOOR TO DOOR

 

15. What type of vehicle will I be transported in?

All vehicles are 8 Seater Renault Masters or Ford Transits and are specially adapted with capacity for up to three wheelchairs at a time. We allocate your journey to the most appropriate vehicle at the time you want to travel from within its area of operation.
 

16. What help can the drivers provide?

Drivers can provide assistance to and from your door to the vehicle e.g. to help you with shopping bags. However, our drivers are not expected to provide assistance within the home or to provide passengers with personal assistance such as helping you to get dressed before you go out. It is also advisable that access to your house is ramped as drivers are not expected to get wheelchairs over 2 - 3 steps to get into the house.
 

17. Can I bring someone with me when using the Door-To-Door service?

Under normal circumstances we will carry one personal assistant free of charge for the duration of the member’s trip once we are informed at the time of the booking.
 

18. Is there a limit to the amount of shopping or luggage that I can travel with?

As we only have limited storage facilities on board our vehicles passengers can only travel with no more than two average sized bags of shopping or their equivalent.

If you think you will be traveling with more shopping than this or you are intending to bring luggage with you, please ask our staff at the time of the booking if space will be available.
 

19. What if ACTS Door-To-Door service does not arrive as expected?

If you have been waiting more than 15 minutes beyond the agreed time you should contact the ACTS office to see if there is a problem, such as a delay due to traffic congestion.
